    Sexual Harassment of the DAY

Jim Thornton, announcer known best for the American version of Wheel of Fortune from 2011, also played Johnny Gomez in the revival of Celebrity Deathmatch 2006-7, and was in Monsters Inc. has been caught on a plane in a chatroom for paedophiles, and thus suspended from all his plum roles.

The thing is, the worst comments cited, about the Golden Corral buffet are sent by NicholasB77

Which if you look at the other photos, is clearly him, as you can see stuff in the send field that ends up under the name.

    Trailer Of The Day

I was only familiar with the Holmes and Musk trailers, and I think they are very different. I showed the 'Holmes' trailer to my teenage son because he's interested in cinema. Even though he knows nothing about the people involved, he was interested in watching it. He wants to watch Primetime because it stars Robert Pattinson and is produced by A24. So, there's the film aspect to consider.

I didn't know about the Altman one, but it doesn't seem to be a documentary, rather a biopic starring Garfield, which seems to be more in line with The Social Network, which I thought was a decent film and an interesting cultural artefact. However, I would put The Big Short above The Social Network.

I don't mind or care if it fuels those people's egos. I think it's a worthwhile exercise in filmmaking, and while there will be some failures, at least they serve as a record.

    Trailer Of The Day

Am I the only person nonplussed wall of these tech ghoul biopics and documentaries?

Within a span of two days we have Nathan Fielder wasting his valuable time on Holmes, a Musk doc, Neon's acquisition of the Altman doc.. and Julie Garner playing the FTX goblin dork girl (ok, that shit is lowkey hilarious).

I could give two shits about these born to rule malignant narcisissts, and I think giving them a platform post/current crime does nothing but fuel their egos.

Don’t know what the fuck’s going on here, I was driving yesterday and this guy on a bike weaving in and out of traffic cuts in front of my car at the last second as I’m about to make a right. He puts up his hand and says sorry.

Didn’t punch my hood, didn’t kick my headlights in, didn’t spit on my car.

Dublin is a bizarro world where people are polite, well mannered and courteous.

    Crazy.

    Creative use of AI

man so this is interesting, my 15 year old son is fervently against ai.. he was studying yesterday and i was like you should get notebook LM to make a podcast on the topic so when your done reading the paper, you can relisten to it and see if you missed anything. I have rarely seen him so annoyed by anything..

its not like he is anti tech tho, he spends all his time gaming and modding minecraft.

i think he is just pissed that growing up all he wanted to be was a game developer and AI has cannibalised his dream.

he now wants to be a marine biologist.

dont really have the heart to tell him ..

    • TikTok generations hates Ai. My son is also 15 and they see anything Ai as worthless.slappy
    • i find this so interesting.. its almost like we are all too dumb to see the threat properly but the kids totally see the adversarial nature of itautoflavour
    • we are all still amazed by the magic talking box.. where they see the no future digital cage and overlordautoflavour
    • My teenage son feels the same about AI... as for your son and his dream, I have the same dream of being a one man indie game studio...prophetone
    • I am finally starting to do this lol, learning Blender, figuring out how I can leverage AI to remove game dev learning curve, pains, act as another team memberprophetone
    • With game dev, especially the biggest struggle is maintaining a manageable project scope, start small, use AI, post up to Itch.ioprophetone
    • Massive game dev inspiration for me is the Sludge Life dev who shared his Unity work, it’s just kind of thrown together, doesn’t have to be perfectprophetone
    • Here’s one of his vids: https://youtu.be/GOW…prophetone
    • He posted rough, experimental games like Goblin Uzi to Itch as early works: https://goblinuzi.tu…prophetone
    • Point is his example has kind of shown me just get stuff out there, mess around, experiment, it’s inspiring and shows that you can just start small, funprophetone
    • Just “be” a game developer! Make it happen!prophetone
    • My 20 year old son has embraced Claude Code fully for automating his stock trading. I'm so ashamed. (not really, very proud but where the fuck did he come from?mort_

    • as opposed to every man and his dog being a vibe developer now. look he started his dream was to be a famous youtuber, then game coder...autoflavour
    • so something tangible like Science, feels like an actual goal.. my 11 year old wants to be waitress at a cafe or an artist.autoflavour
    • The irony is that your son could now create almost any game he could conceive of, with the help of AI. If only I could have done that at 15...newcunt
    • yeah, I sense the appeal was understanding the insides and mechanics of it, less then outcome itself.autoflavour
    • AI or not, building out in Unity/Unreal, learning how those work, planning the project out, conceiving of a cool game idea that you can be passionate aboutprophetone
    • That all still on the table, that experience is still there for potential game devs, I think the passion part for "YOUR" idea is the biggest thing hereprophetone
    • Let AI assist for the backend code and mechanics of it, tailor code yourself when you understand what's going on etcprophetone
    • Show user son the Sludge Life vids above from that dev... AI is not making that, look at the fun that can be had building that outprophetone

    Creative use of AI

I’m building a WordPress site, I’m long experienced with WordPress and coding HTML/CSS from scratch, coding out for front and design all that good stuff... a few weeks ago I needed a way to pull YouTube links plus descriptions for videos from specific channels, have them brought in to WordPress as draft posts, tag and categorize them accordingly, and have the descriptions rewritten by AI into punchy max 12 word versions...

Dead-ending for plugins out there, my spec was too specific... I said screw it hold my beer, I’m gonna see how fast I can crank this out with ChatGPT, or Claude, whatever... bounce back back-and-forth between ChatGPT, my code file on my desktop, uploading it to the site for testing/QA on the fly, within about 30 minutes it fully worked with no bugs, I spent the next 30 minutes fine-tuning it’s plug-in dashboard UI to my liking, works like a charm.

I still had to take charge of what I was doing and with my experience that probably sped it all up, I also would take the code and edit it locally myself for fine-tuning, then rep paste it into my chat, but honestly shaved hours, if not days of mucking around to get a working result.

    • That was the first time I used AI to build out a plug-in, TBH I was kind of in a bit of shock at how fast I took it from concept to dialed, doneprophetone
    • Not sure how ‘creative’ this example is, more a comment on how it might help to get to the final product faster, esp if we’re talking about codingprophetone
    • The future is yours, my son.Nairn
    • yeah I've replaced all the unnecessary nonsense plugins that always need updating and are bulky as hell with scripts that GPT writes._niko
    • ^ hehe, those plugins that litter the admin with nag banners and suchSquiddy
    • Yeah, I plan to create nice and tight, efficient versions of WP plug-ins that I use for every new project, like a site lockout, social feed stuff, etc.prophetone
    • Every time I login to one of my WordPress sites, I’m hit with the nag banners, or check out our other plug-ins! banners, it’s a total drag my dudeprophetone
    • I also wanna explore creating a basic starting point package, with AI’s help I guess, for ‘headless’ WP site set upsprophetone
    • Dead easy to do an API. One project is an Angular SPA which now connects to the wp install.Squiddy
    • WP w/ACF creates the most cumbersome forms ever, so I started building admin pages outside of WP. It's pretty fun acutallySquiddy
    • Yeah, I’m gonna look into it and test things out for fun at first, I’ve had a look at things like Faust, other headless frameworksprophetone

Another one of my mum's treasures I have found is this very heavy sculpture in what feels like heavy brass by Belgian artist Jef Lambeaux (1852-1908). Depicting 2 female lovers it's a really beautiful thing that now sits on my top shelf in the studio. I remember my dad buying it from someone who came into his second hand shop in the early 70's and he thought it was so cool he had plastercasts made of it and they sold like hot cakes in the shop!

    Food

Kid asked for fried chicken today, and I think that this is probably the best general recipe guideline. Except, double-up [at least] the spices, add a smidge of MSG and celery salt into the final layer, add three tablespoons of potato/corn starch into the flour section.

    https://www.onceuponachef.com/re…

I'm done with the whole double-fry for crunch shit, which risks over-cooking everything - single fry and cook 'til the chicken's just done, just a finger beyond pink in the middle and juicy AF.

    • Oh, add in a few tbs of picklejuice to the buttermilk marinade. Bonus points for getting your kid to try that before it hits the chicken. The look of disgust!Nairn
    • Gotta serve immediately though. That's where this method fails a bit, crunch-wise. Can't sit around.Nairn
    • Oh, and fuck Canola/Rapeseed oil.
      Shit's loathsome.
      Sunflower oil, oil the way.
      Nairn
    • Dunno why so many recipes recommend that shit.Nairn
    • That's my biggest problem frying / cooking like this: I have other shit I want to serve w/it and my fried stuff gets fucked (softens / gets mushy).PonyBoy
    • +1 for saving / using the pickle juice!

    • Nairn, is hyping rapeseed oil because it's seen as a sustainable/local choice? I dunno but the yellow fields are on the things I miss about Blighty list.MrT
